kalbarri national park

En route to Geraldton where we are now, we went to Kalbarri National Park where the Murchison River joins the ocean. It is noted for its wildflowers which set the landscape ablaze with colour from July to November.

Before we entered the park we passed huge fields of wheat at the point where they are ready for harvest and the roads were hilly and winding, a stark contrast with the desert landscapes, dunes and coasts that preceded it. It almost felt like an English spring day!

The colours of the wildflowers were fabulous, and we ended up hours behind schedule as Ness stopped the van every 10 minutes to nip off and take more flower pictures. The coastline was impressive too despite the fact that the winds were wild and the coastal walks were bracing ( ie cold, wild and difficult).

It was great to see all the colours along the roadside.

There will be a multitude more flower pictures when I post the new web album.

We passed through Northampton and were gutted that we were a weekend too early for the 'Airing of the Quilts' Festival......where 'lovingly made patchwork quilts are displayed from buildings, roadsides and shops'.
